Conferences & Invited Talks

Dr. Stanley Liu is dual-trained in dentistry and medicine through oral and maxillofacial surgery and otolaryngology-sleep surgery. He is a former Stanford Sleep Surgery Fellowship Director. He lectures worldwide on integrated treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), covering maxillary expansion (DOME), preservation pharyngoplasty (UPPP), maxillomandibular advancement (MMA), and hypoglossal nerve stimulation (Inspire). He frames sleep surgery as restoring missed milestones in growth and development, the through-line of his keynote lectures.

His most significant work is the update of the Stanford Sleep Surgery Protocol first developed by his mentors, Dr. Robert Riley and Dr. Nelson Powell. He moved it from a phased approach into a continuum of medical, dental, and surgical care. Notably, the new protocol brought drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) into the sequencing of esthetically balanced MMA. It also introduced naso-maxillary expansion (DOME), developed with guidance from Dr. Christian Guilleminault.

Dr. Liu has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and keynoted the American Academy of Sleep Medicine SLEEP meeting in 2019 and the World Sleep Congress in 2023. Use the interactive map below to explore his talks, grand rounds, invited professorships, and keynotes worldwide.
